Know the Glow

Know The Glow aims to globally eliminate preventable early childhood blindness.

Their Vision: prevent children from losing theirs.

Know the Glow is an organization driven by a powerful vision: to globally eliminate preventable early childhood blindness.

Their mission is to raise public awareness of the Glow (leukocoria) and the more than twenty different glow-related eye diseases, driving action to prevent childhood blindness.

Know the Glow firmly believes that no child should lose their sight to a preventable eye disease.

Megan and Ben's Story:

The journey began with a simple act that many parents can relate to – uploading family photos.

As parents, they captured those precious moments of their children's lives, sharing them on social media or saving them for cherished memories. Little did they know that this seemingly routine act would change the course of their family's life forever.

Sharing digital photos of their then five-year-old son, Benjamin, turned out to be a lifesaver – literally. Those pictures revealed a crucial sign, the Glow, and led them to seek medical attention that ultimately saved Ben's life and preserved his sight.

Megan and Ben's story serves as a valuable lesson and a heartfelt reminder for all parents.

Know the Glow encourages every parent to view their family photos through a new lens, to "Know the Glow," and to prioritize regular eye checks with a specialist. Early detection can make all the difference in preventing childhood blindness.

The Origin of "Know the Glow"

The phrase "Know About The Glow" was given to Know the Glow by Dr. A. Linn Murphree when they embarked on their mission in 2010.

Dr. Murphree, one of the world's premier Retinoblastoma surgeons, recognized the importance of finding children at risk of retinoblastoma and other leukocoria-related blinding diseases through the glows in flash photographs of children's eyes.

Over time, this phrase evolved into "KnowTheGlow," spreading awareness and saving children from going blind worldwide.

Dr. Murphree's legacy extends beyond his pioneering research in Retinoblastoma and his groundbreaking work on the RB1 gene.

He was not only a brilliant scientist but also a tireless advocate for patients, early detection, and awareness. His dedication to caring for children at risk of glow-related blindness has left an indelible mark.

Today, all those at Know the Glow are committed to carrying forward Dr. Murphree's legacy, his words, and his unwavering dedication to finding and caring for children at risk of glow-related blindness.

He will forever remain in their hearts and their work, serving as a beacon of hope for countless families around the world.

Join Know the Glow in their mission to prevent childhood blindness.
